Calling?

I was just wondering when everybody else starts to call at deer. Today was opening day here and I seen multiple small bucks and does but nothing big. I heard from my father's friend that he had already seen bucks pestering does. That got me wondering if maybe calling would work now or not. What is every ones opinions on when is the right time to start calling?

I know a guy that shot a real nice one early like this grunting real softly. I personally would not be calling too much or too loudly.

In general, the last few days of October is when I start with blind calling, aggressive grunts and rattling. Early season.....if I had a buck in sight and ear shot I wouldn't hesitate to try a soft grunt or two. It really depends how things present.
