Deck stain recommendations

Finished a 16x16 cedar deck today. I'll build them but staining them is on them.
They asked what I'd recommend for a clear coat type to keep the natural look. I really don't know?
Something that will keep it from fading yet enhance the beauty of cedar.

Any advice from this crowd?

Good luck. Grew up with cedar decks and built a large one on my current house. I honestly prefer to just let them go and power washer and wood brightner every couple years. Better than reapplying stain biyearly.

I’ve used on new decks as well. Depends the look you want. I used it as a thick protective coating to not power wash every other month. I didn’t care about the wood grain appearance. Still had to power wash now and again but not as often. Did wait a year to let the wood dry out though.

I live in a log home and use Q8 Log Oil from Western Log Home Supply. Works for decks as well. It's good stuff and goes on easy.

Lol. I build decks and have for 35 years.

I freaking HATE composite decking!!! And I've built lots of them.

Bout 10 years ago, my mother wanted here deck replaced. It was about 30 years old. She wanted composite.
I begged n pleated with her to go with cedar but she insisted on composite.
I told her flat out that she will end up hating it. It'll be to hot to enjoy (south facing) and slippery when wet.
I finally gave in and built it. She Hated it from day one!.
It got so hot, she could not go out there even in the evening to grill.

They went with plain old Thomsons Water Seal.

A composite deck is like hanging deer mounts on a painted sheet rocked wall.. it needs WOOD.;)
