deer numbers?

I've got a pretty good area that I hunt every year. Its not just one farm but several different ones in a 20 mile radius. The past years I've had high doe numbers and not as many mature bucks as I'd like to see. This year I was both pleased and disappointed; the doe numbers were down and the buck numbers were up, but I was seeing a lot of deer go down to the blue tongue disease. Anybody else notice any of this? And any tips that'd keep my herd healthier?

Most saw fewer deer this year.

EHD and other diseases tend to hit areas of high population densities, not a whole lot one can do about that.

That's what I've heard. Wonder if putting out watering tanks would help keep them out of the parasites' breeding grounds? From what I've read they become infested with the disease while they're in mud around water sources..
