Did some scouting yesterday; New Mexico pics

It was 60 at 5200 ft where we live and a 1 1/2 hour drive took us into this elk and muley country. The snow was so deep we had to turn around as the snow on the road was too deep. We had some buddies that flew in from KC,MO for the weekend and we took them sight seeing while I used the outing for scouting this public hunt area.

Rio Rancho; suburb of Albuquerque. We went out in the hills today and saw coyotes and played with the Blazer. Tons of yotes here. Packs of 3-4 are commonly seen.

Re: Did some scouting yesterday

Thanks, it is very beautiful here indeed. I have until April 9th to apply for my tags but must wait one more week before I apply to meet my 90 day residency requirements. So many decisions on what big game species to hunt and where I want to go that it is a little overwhelming. I have been researching and will be doing a lot more this week before I apply. I plan on getting quite a bit of use out of my walltent.

Re: Did some scouting yesterday

LOL; that's what my Grandpa calls me. Sarah and I are applying for antelope. javelina, elk, deer, barbary, and bighorn sheep this year. Maybe turkey, haven't decided. We missed the residency requirement date for Oryx and I am not sure about applying for Ibex yet. Javelina, mulies, and elk are my main desire right now. Bears and mountain lion next year. This is enough to hunt this year. 80% of tags go to residents. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we are also planning on a Durango,CO elk bowhunt in Sept too. Our last elk hunt there we saw lots of bulls and learned the area well. Tags for bow are over the counter and it is only a 4 hour drive from NM for us.

Re: Did some scouting yesterday

Cool pics, I was out there for 4 months the summer of 2006 (actually Northern AZ), definitely awesome country and more elk, mulies and speed goats then most people could ever imagine. I think the only animal I didn't see while I was out there was a black bear. Awesome country, good luck with the apps and the hunting.
