DOGS,,Revisited:

Most probably won't want to hear this subject again,, but I thot might be interesting to hear what another,"Official", told me. remember I was the one with neighbor dogs running deer all over my land? Well I wrote a letter to a county supervisor, in my property's county. He said he saw a conflict alright. I bought land in the country to enjoy wildlife and hunt,,others buy land in the country so they can let their dogs run loose. He said I was the first to ever complain about this problem, and that possibly if he got more complaints someday he might do some thing about it. So I guess it is do whatever you want in rural Wapello county? I wrote him back and said, if the law will not help me. If you can do whatever you want,, then I would just have to do what my neighbors and the dnr told me,,"Just shoot-em". I would hope the law would be fair to me too. Guess I'll have to get the old shot gun out. I won't shoot to kill,,just shoot to scare. Not much of an answer,,from the powers over me,but what I expected.

If it were me I would shoot them. It isn't right for people to think that they can let their dogs run loose all over the country side. I grew up in the country. We kept ourr dogs tied if we wern't out with them, and if they did run, and got after the neihbors livestock and got shot, we weren't pissed. After all it was running on his property. We even ended up installing underground electric fencing around my parents 1.5 acre place to keep the last dog they had in. A little work but it kept him from bothering others.

Same here! My Dad would get awfully pissed off if strange dogs were on our property or if our dogs were roaming the wilderness. He always told me that they could spread disease from other farmer's livestock into ours or vice versa. The urbanites who are moving into the countryside are the ones that just don't get it.

The neighbor dogs are always going through my pond and messing with my fish all the time. When I complained to my Elderly neighbor about her dog swimming in my koi pond, she said "but he gets hot in the summer". I have fence on 3 sides of my yard, but what, do I have to put it on all 4 sides and gate the driveway as well?

My neighbors cat spends more time in my yard then theirs. Almost impossible to keep it from pooping in my daughter's sandbox.

A few years ago, The deer farmer behind me shot and killed my neighbors dog.

I don't care where you live, keep your dog in your own dang yard, if it comes into mine, you wont get it back. I will remove the collar and take it to the humain shelter. I took 6 cats there last year.

I grew up in the country and live in town now, unfortunately. My neighbors dog always comes over and $hits in my yard. Then when I put out the trash sometimes that $*%#*@% dog will knock it over and tear it the garbage bags and get trash in my lawn. A about a month ago I set a couple of #1 long springs and poured bacon grease on them and wired them to a a electical pole in my yard. I figured the dog would pull out, but it would teach it a lesson. They were set off and had dog hair in them two days in a row. Dog doesn't come around much anymore.

I have a hard time shooting a dog! I don't know why, maybe it's cause I grew up with them. I have some stray beagles come in once in awhile when I'm deer hunting and I just can't do it. Now cats, that's a whole different story. I can shoot cats anytime.........HEEERE KITTY KITTY!!!!!

Agreed

Cats...Dogs...If they're in the wrong place they should be eliminated...People think that just taking them into the country and dumping them is humane.

My dad tells the story about how he caught the neighbor's two dogs chasing cattle in our cattleyard, he shot one, but the other one headed back home. Dad called the neighbor and told him what had happened. He came and picked up the dead dog and then went home and shot the other one. Most people aren't that responsible any more.
