The sun is just appearing over the horizen, the cardinals are singing, and just
20 yards in front of you,is the tom turkey, you have been seeing the last few
weeks, before the season opened. In the blink of an eye,you release your
arrow,or pull the trigger on your gun,and the trophy is yours. You carefully
run out to your trophy. Now,a while back, you thought about someday getting
a turkey mounted for your den. Here is where you start taking some important steps
on proper field care tips.

Do Not step on the bird's head.
Do Not wring the birds neck.
Pick up any feathers on the ground.
Carry the bird carefully by the feet.
Keep the bird out of direct sunlight.
Keep the bird clean and dry.
It is important that the bird cools down as soon as possible.
Once the bird has cooled, place in cotton or mesh bag.(pillow case)
Try to get the bird to your taxidermist the same day.
If you cant get to the taxidermist, place the bird in 2 plastic bags, remove air, seal tight and freeze.
If it is very warm out,its important that you get to the taxidermist, refrigerate,or freeze as soon as possible.

Here are some "other,true story" tips;

Dont throw bird in the back of your truck for 5 consecutive 80 degree days.
(Charge extra for maggot removal)
Dont ask if the meat will be any good.
If you shoot the same bird, at the same time, with two of your buddies(in full strut) probably will have to get another skin.
If you already have the bird, but have to buy a tag yet.Make sure you give the taxidermist your full name, address, phone number, and where you are heading to buy your tag!!!
Yes, it can keep in the freezer for a while, but please have it some plastic bags.
Take Care and Happy Safe Hunting !!!!
