Heat gonna delay rut any in Kansas?

Planning on taking my annual 7-10 day bow hunt up to east central Kansas next week. Looking and praying for cooler weather, but do not think it's gonna happen. As it stands now, the temperature are gonna be in the mid 40's and mid 60's.
I was there last year starting Nov 10th and weather was 30's and 50's and saw bucks everywhere, including a 180 class. If you guys had the opportunity would you wait and go a week later? It is a big gamble because it could be just as warm then. I just do not know if the weather in Kansas has been cool enough to really get the rut kicking. How warm do you guys think it has to be to postpone the rut by a week or so. Would this just make the chasing phase go a little longer before entering the breeding phase? It seems like this is gonna be the year to make a special attempt to hunt the 2nd rut(more intense). What do you guys think?
Tried to cut it short guys, but my spirits are dwindling.

Warm weather will not 'delay' the rut.... it just suppresses daytime rut activity.... the rut still takes place at night, especially in warmer weather...... I hunted the same region last year at tagged a buck on Nov. 14th but the daytime activity was just starting to pick up..... if you have 10 days to hunt then I would certainly think you would hit the best activity if you went next week for 10 days....

As far as the 'second' rut..... I wouldn't put much on that concept.... I have NEVER seen a secondary rut even come close to the activity seen in a warm weather primary rut.... just my opinion.....

Good luck in Kansas....be sure to post your harvest photos /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Deer are moving like crazy here in Kansas the last couple days. I'm between Topeka and Salina. I have a couple of friends from out of state, hunting with me this week and they saw 18 bucks tonight, 8 or 9 of them were 120 class or better, and 3 hot does. Deer movement has really picked up yesterday and today.

It is great to see deer. But like many others here I am trying to hunt trophies. I am just a little unsure of how these cool sporatic days are gonna have on the rut. Wish it would stay cooler. Atleast it's not a full moon. I am fortunate enough to be able to go north and scout/do preparations, but still feel that I've got a lot to learn. I hunt in Linn Co. Thanks for the response.
I am definately due for one this year!

Sorry, should have added a little bit to my post I guess. Since the rut heats up as the does come in, the fact that we are seeing hot does on almost every sit, means the bucks are moving and cruising. Even in Kansas during the rut, you are not going to see a booner on every sit. If there are hot does around, and you sit all day, in most parts of the state, you will see the big deer. Just because the bucks that are on a given hot doe, are 150 class, does not mean the bigger bucks are not moving. If there are hot does, they are moving. The only thing I might be concerned about next week is that a few of the big boys will be locking down with does. Still, the rut is heating up fast, and the warm weather won't stop that.

Crazy world, I'd LOVE to see a 150 class! I thought that was a big buck, oh well... It's a good thing I live in Kansas and have hunted here for 17 years, I have a wall of 180" deer, LOL

I guess that sounded a little snooty. That's not what I meant. All I have on my wall is a 142 from my family hunting land near Houston and a 158" my wife shot off my shoulder(1st deer). This is my 6th year to hunt this area. I for one, know very well that nothing is expected, even in Kansas. Sorry about that.

Travis, I primarily hunt Linn county Kansas and can honestly say that things have been real slow the last 2 weeks.... Not to say that they won't pick up but we have yet to see any real strong rutting activity. I will be out the next 3 days and hopefully will have a better report for you....

Mark....

I've been out hard the last week. Wednesday would have been great, and it was the only day I couldn't go morning or evening. Things are really slow here in SE Kansas, lot's of rut sign, but I believe most of the activity is taking place at night. Pray for cooler weather! They're calling for rain chances some next week and even if the temps don't drop much, a light shower or two will get 'em moving in the daylight hopefully.

I hunted every day this week in Linn Co. and saw NO daytime movement. First and last hour only, and no big boys at all. They are showing up late on the cams. Screw it, I'm going quail hunting tomorrow. But they are harder to find these days than booners /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Just got home from Hillsdale. Walked 3 hours saw 3 quail. Missed the only bird I had a chance at. I never was much of a wing shooter. Some other guys that hit it just before us kicked up 3 nice coveys and killed a dozen birds.

Did jump a really nice 8 pt. bedded alone in some CRP, and I put 2 rounds of lead in the hiney of a coyote. It was a nice change of pace to be out walkin fields. Now its back to the tree stand for the rest of the weekend.

Well, I did not meet up with a booner face to face. My hunting partner did come full draw with one at less than 10 yds on the 14th. Stopped him twice but both times behind trees. Anyway, I was still pumped for him. Seen many 130's-mid 140's. Probably should had sent an arrow into a questionable 150 but that's how it goes. I realize now that I need to place more stands in favor of hunting the south wind. Two of our better stands could only be hunted from N to NW winds. The wind finally switched the 13th to the North and the hunting was on. Had a total of 9 stands that we rotated out. Of all hunts I only got skunked 1 morning and 1 evening. After my buddy saw the huge 8 pointer and failed to get a shot off, he was a little trigger happy the next morning. Before it was fully light out, he spined shot a 140 inch buck. May have been 150, but had 3 tines broke off. Despite the mistake of shooting a little early, it was a good management buck.
This was the first year to hunt over feeders in Kansas. Had one stand that held 8 doe nearby. Before it went off, you could hear grunting and does being chased nearby. Once it got daylight, it was so cool to see a wide array of bucks coming by to scent check. It was like this everytime one of us hunting this stand. Actually had we shot a booner, it would have seemed too easy.
The weather was warmer than I was hoping, but all in all we still saw plenty of rutting activity during daylight hrs. What was weired to me was that one night you would see huge numbers of deer out at night. But, the next night(despite same conditions), would not see a thing.
I still have an unfilled buck tag. I more than likely will go back around Dec. 15 and hunt a few days(if I can stay warm).
Here are a few pics from my trail cams. Trying to get these critters on camera is beginning to get addictive. The pic of the big one was taken the day before I arrived to Kansas. Too bad this was one of the stands I couold not hunt until a north wind. The cam was about 15yds from my ladder stand. And yes, that is a deer block he's checking out.
