Here is the response I got from my representative.....

"Bret-

I also feel this HSB 556 is a bad piece of legislation- don’t worry- it won’t pass.

Thanks for your email,

Stay in touch and stay safe,

Representative Clel Baudler"

Feel free to post your responses from those you contacted here so we can see what they have to say.......

Thanks for posting your Rep's response. I posted earlier, Rep. Whitaker's response on this issue. Sometimes I start to wonder if anyone is pitching in to make a difference on these important issue's but your post gives me hope!
Hopefully others will soon add to this list...or let us know if their legislator didn't bother to respond.
Together we can be a powerful voice at election time and they need to know we're counting on their support or aware of their lack of it....

You guys are not alone. I spent two hours today talking to several Senators concerning SF 2021 and also to several Represenatives concerning HSB 556. I called both my Represenative and Senator today as well as all Reps listed on the post by fishorhunt under "Legislative Alert". Not to mention a couple others that I know from surrounding districts. We need to continue making the calls! I hope other residents who enjoy their opportunities to hunt in this State are doing the same.

Certainly our lawmakers must be made aware that we are a united voice to be reckoned with.
A very small effort on our part can make such a huge difference in what they decide to do...not only on these issue's but anything to do with deer hunting. Otherwise they will treat us like "dumb animals" thinking we just don't care.

Hey TRX -

Clel is my rep too. Here's what he responded to me.

Bill-

Doubling the out of state licenses will not happen. Several of us in Natural Resources have killed it year after year, and we will continue to do so this year. You might be interested in a bill that we are running on Monday in Natural Resources, HF 735. It’s much like Missouri’s language in the fact that it deals with trails, state parks, and access to public hunting- which I totally support.

Stay in touch and stay safe

Clel

For those interested House File 735 deals with appropriations for funding more public hunting. Looks like a good measure to me. Encourage your legislator to vote for it.

HF 735

HF 735, SOIL CONSERVATION and HUNTING PARKS & TRAILS. Appropriates funds to a DALS conservation practices revolving loan fund and to the public hunting, parks, and trails program fund. The bill appropriates .5 percent of sales and use tax receipts for a 10-year period from July 1, 2005, and ending June 30, 2015, into the conservation practices revolving loan for the purpose of establishing new permanent soil and water conservation practices on private land.
The bill appropriates 1.5 percent of sales and use tax receipts for the 10-year period from July 1, 2005, and ending June 30, 2015, and 2 percent thereafter to fund a DNR program to establish a public hunting, parks, and trails program and fund and appropriates revenue arising from the sales and use tax to fund the program. The purpose of the program is to undertake projects to lease and maintain land for public hunting, undertake projects involving vertical infrastructure in public parks, and to undertake projects for recreation trails development, but not involving the purchase of rights-of-way to recreation trails. Creates a public hunting, parks, and trails program advisory board consisting of six public members who represent three agricultural groups and three conservation, habitat, and wildlife groups and who are appointed by the DNR director. Amended & passed HNR subcom. Goes to HNRC. The amendment does the following: 1) 98% of the sales tax goes to the General Fund, 2) 0.5% goes to the conservation practices revolving loan fund, 3) 1.5% goes into the public hunting, parks, and trails program fund, 4) removes the sunset for soil conservation funding therefore the amount going to the DNR would stay at 1.5%, 5) adds repair as an authorized purpose for trails and acquisition is deleted, 6) of the portion going to the DNR, 40% is for hunting access, 30% for state park infrastructure, and 30% is for trails. The 40% is to be spread among counties and an equal basis, and 7) the bill is to take effect July 1, 2007 (no budget implications this year).

Thanks Ghost! I was just about to cut and paste but you beat me to it.

The other good thing is any funding unused does not revert back to the general fund - it stays intact for the original purpose of the bill.

Thanks for posting info about this bill! This is the type of dedicated funding we should have, all share in the costs and benifits. Worth taking the time for another round of contacts letting them know we would appreciate support for this bill.
