Mo. Turkey Hunt Up 12 Percent on First Day

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) Missouri's Conservation Department says hunters killed nearly 6,800 turkeys on the first day of the spring turkey season.

Franklin County had the biggest total on Monday's opening day, with 164 birds bagged. Hunters in 10 other counties killed more than 100 turkeys Monday.

In all, the department says the statewide take was up 12 percent than on opening day last year.

Turkey season runs until May 9. Last year, hunters bagged nearly 42,000 turkeys in the three- week spring season.
