This is my new varment/deer rifle. It is a 243 Ruger Model M77 topped with a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40. I was not a big fan of Ruger but I had to have this one. <font color="blue"> Anyone have opinions on those Rugers? </font>

Nothin wrong with Rugers, I have a M77 in .270, a 10/22, a GP100 in .357 and a MarkII .22 competition target pistol and all of them are very accurate. Enjoy your new Ruger.

Iv'e got Rugers in 10/22, M77.270 &amp; 7mm Mag, Mark II .22 pistol and love them all. The only thing I did to my M77 .270 was to have the trigger worked down to 3 lbs. It made it a real shooter.

Nice lookin' rifle.

I've got a Super Redhawk revolver and love the thing to death. Hoping maybe to use it for deer hunting one of these years.
 
I may think about having the trigger worked down on mine as well. It is a little stiff. I have been shooting 200 yards with it and grouping them in about a 6 inch circle. I need to put it in the vice though and then see how she does.

it looks like my remington 597's stock.
I have been shooting a custom weatherby for 15 years and it shoots where I point it.
last year I bought a remintgton 700 varmint special vbl 22-250 after playing with it some..not much my weatherby still shoots better no matter what the range.to me a great gun is one that you have confidence in and I think the ruger will suit you fine.

you need to lend that to the guys down in wisconsin...those deer hunters could have used it that day to protect themselves.I went to my farm once to work on my barn after work.I heard some shots and thought it was my neighbors..it was september.anyway I heard them again??? they were in my woods..I snuck down there and found a woman in full camo looking for something? I snuck up on her and confronted her...well then there is another shot?? waht the heck..its her boyfriend and I go looking for him.I find him and ask him what the heck he is doing? well it got heated and I backed off...only because the guy and a serious looking M4 assult rifle!
now when I have to confront someone..they see my clock 45 on my side.nice toy.

there is only one bad thing about a ruger rifle......factory triggers. rough, heavy, grating. get that slicked up, and you have a shooter!
 
Nice lookin' rig. Don't put the gun in a vice! Use sand bags. Have the trigger pull lightened. With only a 9x scope don't expect to shoot 1" groups at 200 yards. I would expect your set-up to shoot consistant 3" groups with the right load at 200 yards. If you had a 20x scope or more then I would work different loads to achieve sub 1" groups at 200 yards. Remember you can only shoot as good as you can see. So if your crosshairs cover a 1"-2" wide area at 200 yards than you can't expect to shoot less than 1"-2" groups. The 9x scope will work if it is a target dot or fine duplex. The most important thing is to get that trigger light and crisp. Trigger work will be the best money you can spend to improve the accuracy. Always work to sight in and practice at 100 yards. You will be able to shoot 1" groups at that distance. If you shoot at 200 yards you'll just mess with your head and be less confident. The .243 shoots flat so if you use a ballistic tables for the load that you will be shooting you will know exactly where it will hit out to 400 yards. So what I'm saying is get confident at 100 yards and the trust the rifle to do its job when that coyote is standing at 50, 225 or 375 yards. Add a steady rest and a slow deliberate squeeze and the yotes will be a fallen.
