There are alot of local geese shot in October......alot!!!
I agree completely that there are a lot of geese killed in October. However, the point you're missing is the geese won't leave until the season opens and they get shot at. Therefore, if you open the season 2 or 3 weeks later you'd still be shooting the same geese plus catching some of the northern birds migrating through the State. The added benefit is that you would get to hunt the migrating geese for a longer period of time. Win Win situation IMO.
