My Grandparents had a buckeye tree in their front yard in Kentucky back in the 70’s. I don’t recall them being really spiny.

These are a couple off a tree I started from seed that I bought from a habitat company. I’m guessing these porcupines show the Chinese variety influence. These fell off a 3 year old tree in the nursery. Do they usually open up to drop the nuts? Not sure what critter will mess with them if they have to dig them out of the spines.

What's the difference between chestnuts and buckeyes?
I thought that buckeye and chestnut was just regional different names for the same tree. From a quick internet search, it appears that they are not. My bad. Learn something new all the time if one pays attention. ;)
