Quad4hunters Handicap Season Hunt...

My buddy Kevin (Quad4hunter) asked me to post the story of his handicap season hunt...

IT WAS A INTERESTING HUNT THIS YEAR. I HUNTED ABOUT 9
DAYS ALL TOGETHER JUST IN THE EVENING. FIRST DEER I
SAW WAS ON THE FIRST DAY IT WAS A 8 POINT IN VELVET.
HE WOULDN'T STOP TO GIVE ME A SHOT. SAW A 4 POINTER
ONE DAY BUT LET HIM WALK. HAD MY SCOPE ON A FEW DOES
BUT LET THEM WALK TOO. WAS WAITING FOR A 10 POINTER
THAT WAS SEEN IN THIS SPOT ALOT BUT NEVER SHOWED UP
FOR ME TO SEE HIM. DECIDED TO GO BACK TO THE SAME AREA
WHERE I SHOT MY 6 POINTER LAST YEAR. THIS WAS ON THE
LAST SATURDAY OM MY SEASON. SAW A DOE BUT NEVER TOOK
HER. THE LAST DAY OF THE SEASON WENT TO THE SAME HAY
FIELD. SET UP MY POP UP BLIND BUT THIS TIME TOOK A
DECOY AND SOME DEER HORN RATTLES. SET THE 6 POINT
DECOY ABOUT 30 YARDS FROM MY BLIND. PUT A WHITE RAGE
AND SOAKED WITH DOE SCENT AND PINNED IT TO THE BACK
SIDE OF THE DECOY IT BLEW IN THE WIND GREAT. THE
REASON I DECIDE TO TRY SOME RATTLING WAS THE EVENING
BEFORE I HEARD A COUPLE OF DEER RATTLING. MY BROTHER
STEVE DID ABOUT A HOUR AND A HALF OF RATTLING ON AND
OFF AND THEN I LOOKED OUTSIDE TO MY RIGHT ALL I SAW
WAS A LARGE BODIED DEER BUT DIDN'T SEE HIS HEAD. THEN
HE WENT STRAIGHT FOR THE DECOY HE WAS A VERY NICE 8
POINTER. HE HIT THE DECOYS HEAD AND JUMPED BACK 3
FEET. I TRIED TO GET MY GUN MOVED SO I COULD GET A
SHOT BUT I NEVER GOT IT ON HIM. THEN THE DEER WENT TO
THE BACK SIDE TO SMELL THE SCENT. I STARTED TO MOVE
THE GUN TO GET A SHOT BUT THE BUCK HEARD THE MOTOR
THAT WAS TURNING MY GUN. HE WAS LOOKING RIGHT AT ME.
ALL I HAD WAS A CHEST SHOT. WHEN I WENT TO BITE ON MY
TRIGGER PULLER IT WAS TO FAR TO PUT MY TEETH IN THE
MIDDLE OF THE SWITCH AND NEVER GOT A SHOT. THE DEER
HAD SEEN ENOUGH AND HEARED ENOUGH AND OFF HE TROTTED.
I SHOULD OF SET MY BLIND ABOUT 75 YARDS AWAY INSTEAD
OF 30. ANY 12 YEAR OLD WOULD OF DROPPED HIM IN HIS
TRACKS. I NEED TO FIX UP A BETTER TRIGGER PULLER.
I'M GOING TO TRY TO GET ONE THAT WORKS ON SIP AND
PUFF. I HAD A GREAT TIME EVEN WITH NO DEER. HERE IS A
PICTURE OF THE 8 POINTER THAT GOT AWAY. I WANT TO
THANK EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME TO GET OUT IN THE WOODS.

Sounds like you had a very exciting close call Kevin. Way to stick it out to the end!

Way to go Kevin, still sounded like he got your adrenaline going. COngrats on what I would call a very successful hunt.

Glad to hear you're out there enjoying the fall Kevin, sometimes close calls are the most memorable!

I would agree, a very memorable hunt. That is how my antelope season has gone to date. No goat but lots of great memories, and got to help by decoying for two buddies. Any hoot. Good Job!

Sounds like a good hunt Kevin. You have my respect for giving it your all and holding out for the big one. Some of my best hunting memories are of the ones that I almost shot!

Kevin I truly admire you, you are certainly hunting under difficult circumstances.

As others have said, one doesn’t have to have a harvest to climax the hunting experience. Some of my best hunting memories are of the “Big One” that got away.

Thank you for sharing your hunting story with all of us.

Nothing beat being out there and being part of this great sport with or without the harvest. Thank for sharing your story with us.

Great story Kevin! That's what hunting is all about. I've learned that seasons without a harvest make future ones all the more special. All you can do is put in the time, work hard, and see what happens. Congratulations on a good deer season!
