Rye grain question

I have 50 pounds of rye grain seed that I was gonna use last year for a food plot. That food plot now has a house on it. It looks more and more with each passing day that the final grade will not get done this fall. I'm thinking about planting the rye for anti-erosion. How long can I wait to plant it before it gets too cold?

Will it work to run a harrow over the dirt to loosen it up then spread the seed and cultipac?

Will year old seed be worth planting?

Should be fine but you can always do a quick ragdoll test and be sure...
