Scent control

Anyone know of a scent elimination system that actually works? I can shower in scent away, wash my clothes in scent away, put them in a scent away bag when I'm not using them, and spray down everything and everywhere and still get winded if a deer gets down wind of me. Theres always those times when a deer gets down wind of me and somehow doesnt wind me, but not very often. In my opinion I don't think u can fool a deers nose with all the scent away stuff, I think playing the wind is the best bet. What's everyone's opinion? And what products do you think actually work?

I think the rule of thumb is that you want to sit in a stand where 90% of the deer movement is going to be upwind of your setup. There is nothing out there that will eliminate your scent, just products that make you stink less. Unfortunately, whitetails can smell like a billion times better than we can so its best just to play the wind.

there's no product that can eliminate human odor. however, i think there are a lot of things you can do to reduce the amount of scent you leave behind going to and from your stand as well as make a deer think you are farther away than you actually are.
I shower in scent-free soap, use scent-free deodorant, wear carbon clothes, spray down myself and everything i take with me, and even use cover scents.
bottom line....hunt the wind!

I definitely get busted fewer times and have more deer come around me since I started doing all of the sent control stuff. The key with sent control is to not skip steps. Make sure you shower in sent eliminating soap, use sent free deodorant, field spray, keep your cloths is a sent free container, wash them in sent eliminating detergent, and wait to get dressed until you are at your hunting ground. I have a buddy who bought a sent lok suit thinking that was all he needed. He kept getting busted and wondered why. turns out he never took sent free showers, he just left his sent lok clothes in his living room and never washed them. I told him no wonder it isnt working for you. Your hair smells like the shampoo you washed your hair with and you clothes smell like the food you cooked the night before. Hell, I could smell him from 20 yards away. Imagine how potent he smelled to a deer! ..............I do believe sent elimination can make a difference but in the end, getting down wind is the most important thing. The only way to fool a mature deer is to get down wind. Sent elimination is never 100% so don't ever kid yourself that you don't have to consider wind direction. Do both and your odds of success will only increase, IMO

Hahahahah!!!!! Dedgeez/JakeWym you guys made my day! I just
spit water all over my desk from laughing so hard.

I store all my clothes and gear in a big rubbermaid tub full of leaves. That way if my stuff is going to have an odor at all it will be something the deer is used to. Also consider your breath. All the scent control efforts can be easily wasted if your belching up garlic and onions! Try to eat foods that aren't too smelly. I also keep well shaved and my hair really short to try to eliminate any excess hair odors.

Im going to be a little biased because I help sell it, but Xecute by Muddy Outdoors is a great product line as far as in comparison to others.. It wont leave a white film residue on clothing or decoys, it comes in a clear bottle so you can actually see what you are buying. The shampoo and conditioners are actually a quality shampoo and conditioner that wont leave your skin itchy or flakey. I was down in Albia at Muddy this past spring where I saw it for the first time. We diluted about 5 drops of ammonia into a small beaker of bottled water.. the smell was overwhelming.. sprayed two sprays of Xecute intoit and the ammonia smell was completely gone *to the human nose*.. i have also heard reports of people dousing their dog with it and then using the shampoo on them after being sprayed by a skunk and it kills the odor. This will be my first season using it, but no matter what you do, stick to playing the wind.. nothing is 100%

I have some Xecute heading my way and cannot wait to try it. The guys that make it are great people and they have a pretty exciting new line of products in the hunting industry.
