scent dispersion

Does anybody know how far your scent travels from you before it gets to deers level on the ground. Say you are 15-20 feet in a tree. Theoretically, won't your scent travel over the deers nose?

That's a tough one to answer given the information provided.

It depends on many factors.....lay of the land (terrain), wind direction and speed, temperature, humidity percentage in the air, etc...

But yes, that's the idea...to get your scent above, around, and away from their nose.

You will notice that on a warm, moist day with a swirling wind that maybe you should have just stayed home!

The reason I asked is because I made the mistake of placing most of my stands to favor a wind out of the north. By that I mean the spot where I expect the deer to be when it presents a shot is north of my stand so at this time my scent is being carried in the opposite direction of the deer. 75% of my stands are on funnels that run east and west. Therefore, theoretically the critter won't be downwind until he is directly north or south of me, presenting a shot. The reason I am asking is because if I need to move a stand to set it up for a South Wind, I want to do it this weekend.

That's perfect then...

Funnel running East and West (direction of travel of the deer) put a stand on the North side of the funnel for a South wind stand.

Good Luck!

Buy a scent blocker outfit, I got the 3-D leafy wear with scentblocker. Let me tell you it is well worth the extra money to get it. I hade two does and two fawns underneath me this morning the does were lifting their heads in the air sniffing cause they knew i was something abnormal there. they were so close i could see the muscles in their nose flex and could hear them sniffing me but they never smelled me and the wind was too my back blowing right into their faces. Needless to say one of the does is no longer with us!!
