Spotting Scope

I was driving some roads doing some scouting from a distance the other evening with my spotting scope. During one of my “spotting sessions” a local hunter approached me and we struck up a conversation. During this visit he told me that he had never looked through a spotting scope. So I offered to let him look through mine.

After he left I got to thinking, thus this poll.

Wow, I must say I am surprised by the results of this poll so far. With 72 yes and 82 No.

I would have thought that more hunters would have a spotting scope. I think it is a very important part of my early season scouting.

They're worthless in the big timbers, which is 90% of the ground I hunt. 10x binos are all you need. And a dozen trail cams would be nice.

Nikon 20X fixed scope - under $200 from B&H - can see pretty well at 1/2 - 3/4 mile. I really enjoy using it from July to Oct 1 when I am trying to scout for the upcoming season.
