Went sturgeon fishing with two of my sons on the Rainy River on the Saturday before Easter. I had never done this before but I thought I could figure it out fast, and well... let's just say I did. I found a deep hole and achored above it. What happened over the next few hours was just plain ridiculous.
We caught over 20 sturgeon including six over 50 inches. Three times we actually had doubles on 30-plus pound fish. We had a couple of the biggest fish straighten out our hooks so I am going back with bigger hardware next time. We used heavy muskie rods with the drags cranked down as hard as we could turn it and these fish could still take the drag. I thought my shoulders would never recover.
I was just plain unbelieveable.
