Sugar Beets?

Anyone ever grow sugar beets? I have thought about it but think they take quite awhile to grow. In a small plot the deer would probably tear up the greens before the beets could form and be there in the fall. Unless deer would not care for the tops. From my experience Iowa deer love everuthing though,

Ed - Paul tried them a time or two back about 6-8 years ago. Search the Dbltree Corner, I am pretty sure you can find some stuff on them there.

I have never tried them and I seem to recall that Paul thought that they were too finicky to keep on with them FWIW.
