Man Would Get 5 Years Probation in Hunting Death

NEOSHO, Mo. (AP) A proposed plea agreement would sentence a Granby man to five years probation for the shooting death of his hunting companion.

Jacob D. Shamblin pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Steven Cox last October.

Newton County Prosecutor Jacob Skouby says Shamblin will be sentenced next month. Skouby says he'll recommend that the 26-year-old Shamblin undergo a 120-day callback program in prison before being placed on probation. That means Shamblin would be released from prison and granted probation if he successfully completes the program.

The Joplin Globe reports that Skouby said the evidence indicated that Cox's shooting was accidental.
