That's a friggin cool moth... unless one of the dogs ate grass clippings and turned into that.

it's wing span was over 6", it's body looked like something from the predator movies.
 
That is a polyphemus moth. We used to see them fairly often, but haven't seen one in a couple of years. They are really cool, and soft. Kind of "furry". Thanks for the photo.
