Timber Turkeys

Its seems most of turkeys that are taken are in fields or pastures. I've only taken one turkey in the timber. It was masty weather out so we figured the turkeys would be in the timber, and we were right.
But with the rest of you turkey hunters, are most of the birds you've shot in timbers or fields or clearings?

good hunting Jason

...depends on where I am hunting...in Eastern Iowa, where I cut my teeth on turkeys, it was rare to see toms in the open...most (90%) were in the timber...here in Western Iowa the birds seem to be in the trees only when roosting...

hunt river bottoms a lot. No good open fields available. See most of the turkeys in the timber. Have 1 field I can hunt. Have shot one off of it.

Have hunted with muddy in field setups. Seem to see a lot of birds, but they can stay out of range pretty easy. Seems easier for me to pick a good spot in the timber where they will eventually be. Wait them out a lot of the time - when calling doesn't work well.
