ARISPE- An Arispe man was treated and released for injures sustained in a deer hunting accident in Union County late Saturday afternoon. It is the second reported accidental shooting incident of opening weekend of the first Iowa shotgun season.

David Cheers, 41, was taken to the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston following the incident Saturday around 3 p.m. Initial reports indicate Cheers was posted along a road hunting deer when a slug from a shotgun struck him in the lower abdomen. The slug did not penetrate, but did cause enough injury to require medical attention. He was transported to the hospital by fellow hunters.

Earlier in the day, Dale Rowson was injured when a slug entered his left leg calf muscle. He was being treated for his injuries at last report. That accident happened near Claus in Clinton County around 11 a.m.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
