What size of shot??????

I have used #2 shot before. It was a goose load 20 gauge and really didnt damage the bird all that bad. Was surprised.

Was about a 20 yrd shot also.
 
If I recall correctly, #2 USED to be legal in the early 80's. I think it was changed to no shot larger than #4 in the mid to late 80's...maybe even the early 90's. Maybe I am mistaken???
 
I posted this poll because some states do allow large shot size than Iowa does.

I realize this is an Iowa based website, however many IW members are from other states.

Yep in Iowa, here are the regs directly out of the Iowa DNR regulation booklet

Resident and Nonresident Gun/bow License
(Spring and Fall): Archery equipment as
defined above, and 10-, 12-, 16-, and 20-gauge
shotguns or muzzleloading shotguns shooting number
4, 5, 6, 71/2 or 8 lead or nontoxic shot. Number
2 or 3 nontoxic shot may also be used. Hunters
may not have shot sizes other than those listed
above on their person while hunting turkeys.
Muzzleloading rifles may not be used to hunt
turkeys.
 
The larger non toxic shot was written into the regs about 10 years ago because a guy from Camanche shot a turkey with it while duck hunting. He was checked by the DNR and was written a ticket for it. He was so P.O'd, he took the issue to a State Representative from our town and he eventually got it changed. From rouge to regs. LOL

No problem Randy, if it dont involve pictures I usually on read the first sentence also :grin:

Only reason I know this is because they were out of 20 gauge turkey loads at Wally World last year and the guy at the counter showed me in the regs that I could use it.

So you goose hunters can save some money when turkey season rolls around :grin:
