to accurately age a tom. I know an even tail fan, long beard, and long spurs indicate an older tom. But is there a difference between a 2 vs. 5 year old or perhaps a 3 vs. 5 year old. I realize that it is irrelavent and that they are all trophies but I have long been curious. thanks for the input.

Aside from a jakes tail feathers, the spurs are the best indicator of a gobblers age.

Here is a rule of thumb formula I use. Told to me along time ago by an old turkey hunter, based on other good info I learned from him I beieve it to be fairly accurate.

A two year old will usually have spurs shorter than or up to an inch, and will be more or less straight.
Three year olds will be around 1 1/4 to 1 3/8", and have an upswept curve.Four year old gobblers will be in the 1 1/2" range. Five year olds will be long.:)
