Wisconsin DNR Issues 145,500 Spring Turkey Permits

State wildlife officials have issued about 145,500 spring turkey permits through their annual lottery.

Winner notifications will go out in the mail later this week. Hunters also can check their status on the Department of Natural Resources website.

The DNR is making 225,729 permits available this spring, the same number that was available for the 2010 season, when hunters took 47,700 turkeys.

This year's spring season will run from April 13 through May 22. The season will be divided into six, five-day periods that run from Wednesday through Sunday.

Leftover Wisconsin Turkey Permits Go on Sale March 21

Tens of thousands of leftover turkey hunting permits will go on sale in Wisconsin in March.

The state Department of Natural Resources made 225,729 permits available for the spring season. More than 145,500 permits went to hunters through the DNR's annual lottery, leaving about 80,000 permits left.

They'll go on sale on zone-per day basis for five straight days beginning at 10 a.m. on March 21. Any remaining permits for all zones will go on sale on Saturday, March 26. The sale will last until the permits all are taken or the season ends.

Permits can be purchased through the DNR's website, authorized agents and at DNR service centers. The spring season will run from April 13 through May 22. The season is divided into six, five-day time periods.
