CWD Case Found in Wyoming Bighorn Mountains

A Bighorn Mountains mule deer has tested positive for chronic wasting disease indicating the disease has spread to the western slope of the mountains where it was killed.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reported the closest known area where mule deer have tested positive for CWD lies about 35 to 40 miles to the east on the eastern slope of the Bighorns. The mule buck was harvested during a hunt last month in area 46 near Shell.
According to the department, the risk of humans contracting CWD from infected wildlife is low, but no one should eat meat from a deer that tested positive for CWD.
