From the stand

I had a real nice 8 pointer under me at exactly 7:00 AM for a good 30 minutes. Wasn't a buck I wanted to use a tag on and should be a stud next year or a trophy for someone. I shot a big doe that came walking by at 9:30. My 1 doe for the gun season is filled. Headed to push our #1 place for gun season / cougar area. Keep you posted!!

They did bill- a really nice tall buck. Was running so fast I couldnt tell how many points. Quick glance I would have guessed 160 class Bad news though- Spartacus was killed today. Pretty bummed about it. He also had a hole in his neck that looks a few weeks old from a poacher it appeared.

I feel for you. We certainly don't "own" a deer, but sucks regardless. Last 2 years my target bucks were taken by someone besides myself. I get the traditions of "deer drives" in Iowa and grew up doing it. Just not a fan of the practice or the circus it creates. Won't get into anymore than that I'm not here to debate the topic. Have fun, lots of memories made when donning the orange.

Bummer, but at least he fell to a fellow hunter and not to the dirt bag that tried to poach him.

That is true. It was nice to see him up close- just wanted to see how he would grow the next year One of our posters saw some big cat prints along the creek. Excited to check the cameras! Off to UP in smoke in afton for some BBQ

It's such a double edge sword and it's 10x worse when you an avid bow hunter like 99% of us all are. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy gun hunting and that's how I grew up killing deer. But as you get older and you see the work that "us" bow hunters put forth to kill mature deer it sucks seeing that guy who only hunts 5 days of 365 and only does it with a gun and orange; the guy happens to be in the right place right time and shoots a stud.

Yeah- it def sucks Put a ton of work in for bow season and the 1 do not shoot list deer gets shot. In the same breath- I enjoy hunting with others. Even when I bow hunt I bring someone along and usually hope they shoot the big one. It's not about me getting the buck- it's about the work- memories etc that counts for me. Of course the kill is always a sweet bonus. But gun hunting for me will always have a place with me even after something like this happens- not for the push and posts but for the times like I am having right now at a bar with 10 guys sharing laughs and stories. I guess I'll just be a "hybrid" and love certain things about both. Bow is certainly my #1 but comradery with the guys is a certain close second. I'll just continue to whine about the side effects like sparticas and say thanks for you listening:)

I'm with you 100 percent. It sucks having an up and comer get pounded but the time spent with friends and family during and after the hunts is something that I always look forward to.

Love that place.

Lots of movement today - good friend killed a really nice 10. There was an even bigger chocolate rack 12 that doubled back and no shots. Good day so far!! Headed to a brand new property now that hasn't been hunted for years- minus trespassers.

A really nice 8 with split brow shot tonight - I also gained 2 new properties for shed season 200and acres total -PERFECT properties - found two while pushing in fact. Great day today!

What about those Mountain lion pics you promised us?:)

Haha idk about any promises :). But if I get them I will certainly share them. I haven't pulled one card from any of those cameras yet- Im pulling them all Tuesday afternoon HOPEFULLY I have some to share Wednesday once I'm back at the office.

No lion siting but lots of yotes and very large herds of deer. Mostly young bucks so we didn't shoot any bucks. 2 Doe for our entire group. Side note I pushed the whole day and had my first shot bird shot and rest slugs. Many birds down

Just finished my last push of the season - I shot two yotes. Both pretty dirty and missing hair. One doe and a really nice buck shot from the posters. That makes 5 really nice bucks for the season. I'm going down to sit over my foodplot for the evening and have to work tomorrow 1/2 a day. Will get out to my winterset area place tomorrow afternoon.

Pulled the cards and check them this AM- no big cat pics and very few deer pics actually- pretty disappointed

Here are a few pictures from a couple of the deer we took over the weekend- could guys had a good year!

Nice bunch of deer there. That one looked to have good mass. Just wondering how that cat excapted the trail cam. must be a sly devil.
