Deer With an Irregular Growth

So I have a few cams set up on a property I hunt in NEIA and I came across a few photos of a deer with a large and irregular growth. I was wondering if anyone knows what it is. Thanks

Looks like a cyst/abscess, probably got poked by something and a puss pocket formed around it.

Pretty common. I believe it's a thorn in most cases and you get what jrnBronk described.

Not sure what it is but seems more common than you'd expect. The ones I've seen seem to be more fluidy than you'd expect of an abscess.

It will eventually pop open and drain itself, not sure I would want to consume the meat though. Just the thought of puss turns me off.....

A guy I know has pics of one with a growth like that since it was a button buck. Was 3.5 last year and 170-180 class deer. Obviously not hurting antler growth on it.
