Winter peas

I plant about an acre of Australian winter peas. Have any of you had much luck getting the deer to eat them or was it a waste?

I think they are Austrian aren't they? Are you kidding,,deer love them. Usually eat them before they get very big.

Peas are very attractive to deer, I had some in a mixed plot last year with rye, oats and clover too. On the day after Thanksgiving last year I watched a young buck move about in the food plot below me from pea plant to pea plant and surgically nibble down each pea plant that was visible. As near as I could tell, and I was watching him with my binos from a range of about 10-15 yards, he was ignoring everything other than the peas.

Just be sure to buy the kind that doesn't need rain! :D

I can also say that from my home gardening experiences, rabbits seems to hit the peas and spinach first, more than anything else in the garden. So I make sure that I have a clear shooting lane from my bedroom window to the peas! :way:
