Your budget is going up $500 for electronics. Also you need a bunch of tip ups. I don't know the laws in IA, but get as many tip ups as allowed. Where were your live minnows? Live bait is the best IMO. And on the tip up line, we use tip up line with a mono leader tied on the end. I guess you did good for a first timer!

Pick up a used Fl-8 for $150
It's good enough for ponds and will triple the fish you put on the ice.
Alot of good used elctronics at fair prices from people just upgrading.
