The action this week was really good from start to finish with several mature buck encounters. I goofed a shot on a big ten on Friday sticking the arrow in a small tree in front of the buck.
At 2:00 on Sunday I spotted this buck in the distance tending a doe. I recognized him immediately as an old buck I've been chasing for the last few years.
The doe must've been ready cause he had to chase off several other bucks who tried to get near her. Around 2:45 the doe started to lead him right to me. She walked perfectly through a 25 yard shooting lane and he was soon to follow. I was already drawn back waiting for him to step into the lane when a 2 year old buck appeared.
This changed everything and the buck headed a new direction to fend off the new Challenger. The change in direction put him about 8 yards from my stand . At 25' up the angle was pretty steep but the arrow flew true and the buck died on his feet within seconds.
He died a long ways in. Getting him out was pretty interesting. The hill leading into this valley is extremely steep. I had to back up the hill to keep from flipping it over backwards. I think it's time for a winch to pull them up these hills!
