I heard about this for the first time at the local DNR listening post last month. LDPV is an acronym for Lymphoproliferative Disease Virus. It is a disease of wild turkeys.

There is a study being conducted by the Iowa DNR and Iowa State University to establish the prevalence of LDPV in Iowa.

I was asking the state wildlife vet about it at the deer classic. She said they need a part of the scaly portion of the leg. I asked about the spur and she said if you cut out the spur send the remaining scaly parts of the leg in. They look at the bone marrow.

There is a bill in the House that is stuck in politics that would help detect new diseases such as this one in wild animals in Iowa. Link to that thread: https://www.iowawhitetail.com/forum/threads/animal-disease-bill-hf-2240.59460/

Has anybody seen this disease in Iowa?

I’m wondering if the hen I shot with my bow had it. Wondering about risk to humans? I haven’t eaten it but am kinda concerned.
Turkey had warts covering its head.

From what I've read the avian pox virus can cause those scabby things. The wildlife vet said the tumors on the spleen and maybe liver (IIRC) and the bone marrow test were definitive. I don't believe it can be transmitted to humans. BUT yuk.
