Fertilizer on 1 acre turnips

with some rain in the forecast for Sunday night I am planning on planting winter greens which are turnips. What kind and how much fertilizer should I broadcast when I plant? Is one application enough or do I fertilize again later?

Without a soil test I use 50# per 1/4 acre as a bare minimum. Could need double or a second application often triple 19 is the easiest to find. Interested to hear other takes

Nitrogen lovers. I go 300#/a urea which is 138#/a actual. P&K is a tough one without soil test. Get a soil test.

Nitrogen can be reduced significantly or even cut to zero if you plant an annual clover ahead of it (or similar).

That’s a really good question. I personally wouldn’t. It technically is a rotation & I don’t think there’s much for research on this but I wouldn’t. I’d do Dbltree rotation & just Flip flop/ rotate them each year. Think u running higher risk of pests & disease by far. I’ve seen pests get bad in some brassicas. If u do that- 2 years in a row - ok. Don’t do it 3+.

p&k on a whim- per acre: 50-50 would be fine. It’s not going anywhere- likely needed & will be used... & as long as u don’t have some rare Surplus/abundance - it won’t hurt a thing & it’s money in the bank building the fertility for later.
