    EHD in Iowa's Deer Heard

Southwest Davis county got hit pretty hard. I have only found two (a doe and a spike) on our 65 acre farm, but I have not looked. I have to hunt our ground very carefully and I don't hike around until after the season. I know that the number 3.5 year old bucks and older are down. In 50 sits I...

    Land prices / insane!!!

I agree. $5600 an acre is about average for a recreational property in this area. We are fortunate that we bought our farm in 2010 and we got our house and shop built before Covid hit. Our ground would bring about 4x what we paid for it at today's prices. We don't have any Amish within about 5...

    Land prices / insane!!!

A 42 acre piece just about a mile from my house just went under contract. It was on the market for about a month. I noticed the sign was gone this week. I checked the listing and it has gone from available to under contract. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

    Generator

We are on Southern Iowa Electric. We have had only two brief power outages in 3 1/2 years. We are prepared though. I have a Westinghouse 12,500/9,500 dual fuel generator. I have an interlock switch on the main panel. 50 amp exterior generator outlet. I had the local propane supplier run a line...

    Views From The Stand 2019

The stand has a better backdrop than it appears. There is a creek with a treeline behind me. There is an alfalfa/clover mix field across the creek. A lot of the deer come down a terrace between the cornfield and CRP field in front of me. I got busted getting down one night and I got busted...

    Public land pressure

My wife and I bought a farm in Iowa in 2009. My wife is a native Iowan. She was born and raised in CR. She went to Buchanan Elementary and McKinley Junior High. Her family moved to Lisbon and she went to high school there. She wanted to be closer to her family, but we could not find anything...

    Southeast Iowa House/Shop Almost Finished

No. We have been so busy with the house we have not done much to the property. No I did not hunt last year. I had not been here long enough to establish residency. I am good to go now. I turned 65 in December. I now have a Iowa lifetime hunting and fishing license.

    Southeast Iowa House/Shop Almost Finished

It has been a long journey for my wife and I. We bought some ground in Davis county about 10 years ago. We started construction on a pole barn house with a connected shop about a year ago. My wife and I moved up here October 1, 2018. We worked on our house all winter and this spring while we...

If We Build it....Will They Come ?

Here is an article I wrote for the City of Paris. For archers and spectators that have never been to the Pro/Am or even if you have been before here is an overview of the Southwest Shoot-Out. 2018 ASA Southwest Shoot-Out The ASA Pro/Am Tour will return to Paris, Texas for the 12th year on...

If We Build it....Will They Come ?

Great explanation on ASA scoring. The Delta McKenzie targets are "universal targets" that have the ASA high and low 12 and the IBO 11 ring. They can be used for both organizations scoring formats. And yes different classes have different speed limits. Also......Delta McKenzie targets are made...

If We Build it....Will They Come ?

Yes. What really sets ASA apart is the high 12/low 12 scoring. The low 12 is in play on all targets at all times unless the shooter elects to call the high 12. ASA also has unknown yardage classes and known yardage classes. The known yardage classes have become very popular and have greatly...

If We Build it....Will They Come ?

Will do. Once we get settled on our farm we will get things going. Most likely this will be for next year (2019). I know the local shooters in Iowa are not used to the ASA format, but I think they will like it. We are not expecting a lot of shooter, but will appreciate whoever shows up.
