    Hearing protection for hunting?

What does everyone use/recommend? I have muffs for the range but am looking for something while I hunt so I can still hear but protect my ear drums from the gun blast. I am going elk hunting and will be packing 300 win mag with a muzzle break. I will not be firing that gun with out some form of...

    walleye central

Yep. Im 90% sure I know where you were. Lots of fish there. I used to trespass there when I was a kid. I know a lot of guys that still do.

I'm going out on a limb and say this was not public water.

Few new bucks on scrape cam

And this is why I say I am terrible at aging deer. Just when I think I have it figured out, someone (who I assume knows more than I do) says something completely different than what I thought.

    Losing my mind!!!

For some reason the pic isn't showing up for me. Anyway, I am impressed you manned up and hunted last night in the high winds. Usually for me heavy wind = little to no deer. Hope you find him. I think we have all been there at least once.

Few new bucks on scrape cam

Im terrible at aging deer but I am confident to say that last one is fully mature and likely wont get any bigger. Id stick him for sure unless you have better ones running around.

    Questionable Buck?

Question to the guys that say he is 3.5 to 4.5 years old and pass on him. How can you tell from that pic? Not saying our wrong, Im just curious what characteristics you are looking at. Once they get to mature size I cant tell the difference. I suck at aging deer. Personally, I say who gives...

Sligh1 - October 1 Buck, Great Opener! "REST OF THE STORY"....

Good point but I have seen some that are more than just a "snowball mix up" and was clearly trying to tarnish someone's accomplishment or take credit for something they really didn't do. Anyway, I digress.

Blaster (Iowawhitetails poster child for safty!) NOT

Man that sucks but at least you are alive to tell the story. Id hate for you to miss the season. If you want, I and i'm sure others that live within reasonable distance from you would be happy to help you set up a ground blind and wheel you out in the field.

Sligh1 - October 1 Buck, Great Opener! "REST OF THE STORY"....

I haven't heard any absurd stories yet. Just the nearest town(which out of respect to you I wont say) and " hey check out this stud that was taken already". I know what you mean, though. I don't understand the motive to skew a story about a big deer. As we all know, large bone growing out of an...

    10-4-2015 Iowa Bow Buck

I don't think switching heads will help. I don't shoot muzzy's but I know they are proven killers. They are tough animals and some are more resilient than others. Stuff like that happens. I had a similar situation a couple years ago. Couldn't believe how far my buck ran and how long he lived...

    Land

Unfortunately for me, my "land down payment fund" tanked right along with my 401k. Had about $50k saved up in various mutual funds and lets just say they are not worth $50k anymore. :(

    Land

Are most of you guys living on the property you bought? Also, how much $ did you put down. I have a decent amount saved up but am gun shy about pulling the trigger. I would probably have to carry a double mortgage since the Mrs. wont want to move out in the sticks. I don't want to be over...

    where why?

I wait till August too. In years past I put them up in June and then realized I was wasting time and $ and putting unnecessary pressure on the deer only to get pics of half grown antlers and no real useful data. If I lived closer to my spots it might be a different story, but even then, I just...

    Taxidermy turn around time

IMO anything over a year is ridiculous and bad business by the taxidermist, unless they set clear expectations and stick to them. The quality of work should have nothing to do with it. A responsible taxidermist will stop taking on work once they know they will be busy till next hunting season...

    Ten Point Blazer HP

I sold a crossbow a couple of years ago. Unfortunately the market in Iowa is pretty limited. Make sure you have it listed on Craigs List if you haven't already. That is how I sold mine. Not sure on the price but most guys looking to by used, aren't wanted to drop a lot of $. Worst comes to worst...

    Military... considering retiring in IA

IMO you would be crazy to leave WA to move to IA just for whitetails. Don't let the TV shows fool you. There are not booners walking by every other tree like they depict. Land access is difficult and pressure is high. Not to mention all of the other hunting and fishing opportunities WA offers...

    2014 iowa deer classic scores

clearly a guy who never leaves the city and hasn't hunted a day in his life. "lets just exterminate any creature we deem to be a nuisance!"

    Couple up and comers

Those would be on my hit list next season for sure. They look pretty good size already!
