    Switchgrass

The problem with planting this late in the year is it's sooooo hot and dry. We get a little rain and 24 hours later the top 1" of soil is bone dry again. Right now I'm seeing the most growth where there is some light plant residue. It's holding just enough moisture to allow for germination. The...

    Switchgrass

I posted the above on June 28th. Switch never did materialize. Not sure what happened. I frost seeded it in late February onto a fairly clean bed. Anyway, it's a pretty small area so I went outside the box. Soaked some seed in cool water for 1 day. Let drain for 1 day. Alternated seed from...

    Switchgrass

I've never used it, but it's just quinclorac. I'd go for it. I ordered some Drive 75df. It's quinclorac in a 1 lb granular bottle. Each 1 lb bottle does 1 acre. I was a little hesitant about getting it mixed and measured correctly, but it was very easy. Quite a bit cheaper than liquid and much...

Wow! Great looking stand of switch. I'm envious. Thanks for sharing. My biggest problem is always foxtail. Will quinclorac harm new seedlings or can it be sprayed any time?

    Switchgrass

Is anyone seeing any new seedlings? I've got nothing. Zero. Zilch. This is the time of year where doubts start to creep in. I guess I'll go mow it. That will make me feel better. On a positive note. The 2nd and 3rd year stuff looks amazing.

    Switchgrass

Thanks Jbohn. Maybe I'll just spot spray the worst areas with Simazine and see what happens this year. It's a PITA for me to get RU stuff. For the record. I mowed the first year switch 3 times. I think I mowed it too short in a few spots. That seems to be where the Panicum exploded.

    Switchgrass

So I've got 1st, 2nd and 3rd year switch in separate plots. The 2nd year stuff was planted in the winter of 2018-19. For some reason it has a TON of fall panicum. It's almost like I seeded panicum??? Anyway, my plan is to attack it this year with Atrazine, if I can get some, or Simazine. Does...

    Switchgrass

I'm definitely not an expert, but I'm sure the resident gurus have always said you're safe to spray new switch until May 10th. I plan on waiting until around mid May.

    Switchgrass

Thanks for the reply IBH. Yeah, you're probably right. Guess I'm just jealous of you guys. o_O I've got soooo much foxtail and bur cucumber. It just chokes out everything else. I've sprayed, mowed, pulled, cut, sprayed and mowed some more. It just keeps coming. Looked at it yesterday. Starting...

" I hit with atrazine bomb, post emergents & a tiny amount of s-metolachlor (10-15 oz) ". I'm curious about this mixture. "Atrazine bomb, post emergents, s-metolachlor" Looks like it worked great. Switch looks awesome on your August post. Tell me more about this mixture?? I've got an area that...

    Switchgrass

Out of curiosity, I planted 12 switch seeds in a pot on May 5th. They're in a black pot in direct sunlight and get regular water. Only 3 seedlings have emerged so far. 2 of them have been up for 3 weeks and are only 1-1/2" tall. The third just came up this week. This switch stuff is slow to...

    Switchgrass

I've read that you shouldn't apply 24 D until the switch has reached the 3-4 leaf stage. I applied 24 D too early last year. I believe it killed a lot of young switch. I also think those few warm days around Easter got the switch germinating. Some of my 2nd year switch is showing new growth and...

I got this wood from an old octagon corn crib. I have 16' ceilings so I only did the top 8'.

    Switchgrass

Wow, sorry for the slow response. I hate being "that guy" who gets an answer to a question, then is never heard from again. I know it's too late now, but 1 gallon of Drive 75 per acre. (Quinclorac)

    Switchgrass

If I didn't know better, I'd swear that the switch feeds on quinclorac. It's really exploding.

    Switchgrass

The quinclorac appears to have worked really well. After 2 or 3 days the foxtail was turning brown and beginning to droop. These pics are of the day that I sprayed and 6 days later. It seemed like after the first few days, the switch just shot out the top of the wilting foxtail. It's not a great...

    Switchgrass

I took a quick pic before I started spraying yesterday. I'l definitely post up some pics if I can figure out how to do it. I just looked at my "Farm Logs" app. From the time I frost seeded in March, we had a total of .45" of rain for the next 35 days. I sprayed with gly on May 10th, but I just...

    Switchgrass

Good idea, but it's too late. Went yesterday and sprayed the crap out of it. Took a quick peek at it this evening. The foxtail actually looks like it's turning already. Time will tell.

    Switchgrass

Well, since I already bought the Quinclorac, I'm gonna give it a shot. Thanks Sligh, MN Hunter and Jbohn for the advise. I'll post my results in a week or 2...or 3. Some of the switch is 18" tall. Will it hurt it if I mow at 12"?

    Switchgrass

I bought a little piece of ground last November. I frost seeded about 3 acres of CIR in early March onto ground that had been in corn. The previous owner plowed it and added Anhydrous last fall. I had a few different guys who were supposed to get me some Atrazine. I waited, and mowed, waited...
