Skip- is there a way to identify that the plant is dormant by inspecting, ie what to look for, etc?

For those looking to Fall spray existing warm season grass fields, is there a certain soil temperature it should be down to, to ensure switchgrass, etc is in fact dormant? I’ve heard 2 weeks after the first frost, however just checking if there was a better way to be sure....
