Tall grass for a walking in screen

RC Bigrock switchgrass is a great option. It the tallest of the upland switchgrass varieties.

    New switchgrass plot…

RC bigrock was developed from CIR thru years and years of breeding cycles. It is significantly easier to establish. The seedlings have far more vigor. Seed size is 30% bigger. You have far more room for error on planting depth. The concept of stratification is out the window. It simple doesn't...

    Orchard locations?

I think site selection is more important than anything. Fruit trees need to be well drained soils. They do not like their feet wet. Avoid clay soils as well. And if possible plant them up on a hill. Late frosts can zap a Fruit year. Low spots or dips in terrain are more susceptible to late...

That's kinds where I was headed.... double check but I don't beleive alfalfa counts as a crop year for CRP eligibility. They consider thst seeded down. My understanding is you need to be running grains to start the clock on crop history for CRP eligibility. Double check.

    WTB: Tracked Skid Loader

DEF is always a problem eventually. Unless you need a 100 HP machine, stick to 74. The manufacturers play games with the HP to avoid DEF. CAT for example lists the 259, 265, 279, and 289 ALL at 74.9 HP. All to avoid DEF. If you look at the specs on those models they have very different...

    FBN Poloma Beans?

Def E3 beans out there that deer dont really like. I'd like to figure out what is the "most desirable" variety of E3 bean to whitetails. Cuz the herbicide options those beans allow for can't be beat at the moment.

    Land prices / insane!!!

They certainly can, but more often than not they will be below average market value for that area on a per acre basis. Anecdotally, big Warren co farm ~ 800 acres just sold for mid 5's. You arn't buying anything in Warren under 200 acres for less than mid 6's (rare exceptions)

    Land prices / insane!!!

I'd say big farms sell for less per acre. Just an incredibly small buyer pool.

    Land prices / insane!!!

There will always be extreme outliers. Someone that is on their way out that gives someone a killer deal out of good will, someone that gets bamboozled, someone with an extreme urgent need to sell immediately, etc. I know of a KILLER farm that sold for under 4k just a few months ago. Old guy...

This one surprised me. In a floodplain so not a potential building site.

    Comparing recreational property costs….

If all things were magically identical (Same exact property makeup, distance to major city/airport, soil, cash rent rates, etc, etc) My opinion: Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas. (price high to low)

    Favorite Fall Brassica?

I've experimented with them all in different combinations and percentages. Anything other than PTT turnips and radish is doing yourself a disservice imo. I plant them together and also straight radish for archery only spots.
