    Great Rifle Opener in MO

Passed some good young deer. The two bucks in this first pic put on a show. The one buck snort wheezed at the other buck. This young 10 has a lot of potential. My son shot this buck opening evening. The moment just before the shot.

    Weed Plots

These are some cheap plots to create. The field was worked about a month ago and left as is. There is a lot of pigweed and purslane coming up. The deer like it as much as the beanfield on the other side of the camera. Granted the contrast between both field will be different in December, but...

We’ll see how many stick around.

    Offshore fishing trip

Those fish wore me slick! I can only imagine what a tuna could do. The snapper bite was on and after we limited on snapper, we hit the oil rigs for some amberjack. Also brought home 100# of wild caught shrimp from a buddy down there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Shingle oak acorns...who wants some?

Have a quart zip loc baggie in the fridge that I won't be needing if anybody wants them. I'd guess about one lb of acorns is in that bag. First come first serve. :D

Trappers affect deer movement? I think not...

Have been letting a buddy of mine trap since right after rifle season. He checks the traps in the mornings and only traps on the property line and field edges. Walks this field every morning and has taken several coons/skunks here too. Last night, another friend of mine sat up on the hill...

Looks like he will make it!!!

Chances are way better for this buck to see another year now!! Wondered what happened to him since no one had seen him, nor any trail cams pics after September. I figure he just has a huge home range at this point (guess him to be 3.5). Hopefully that shrinks down next year to mainly my...

Deer just do not get it....

All the money put into seed, fertilizer, spraying and for what?? They are browsing the weeds and loving it!! They should be eating the soybeans instead of the giant ragweed!!! There was a lot of hard work put in trying to grow those beans anyways. Maybe they are trying to help my brother...

    Buttonbush

Anybody have some of this growing wild on their property? I'm looking for a few seeds to up the genetic diversity of my planting stock. Have yet to see it in Mercer County MO growing wild (some has to be there somewhere in the county) and what was planted at the farm the deer mowed down. I...

    White oak acorns this year?

Hows it looking for everyone? Bur and white oaks are lagging this year. Swamp white oaks are going bonkers from every tree I checked. Luckily for me, my entire 1/2 mile of creek bottom is covered in these and there are several up on the hills too.

    Funny email (roping a deer)

This was posted on MO Whitetails :way: I figured a few folks would enjoy a laugh. I got this in an email from my dad the other day. Have no idea where it originated or if it is true, but it is hillarious. Why we shoot deer in the wild (A letter from someone who wants to remain anonymous, who...
