Given the chance to harvest an old buck like that would be too great for me to pass up. I've been on the other side too many times, when an old warrior just disappears and you're left wondering "what ever happened to him"? When you have his rack in your possession, there's no wondering. And more...
I don't want to hijack your post but I have seen posts about motorized decoys for turkey hunting the last several years and have wondered if it is legal to use these? I guess I haven't ask the local DNR officer, but it sounds like many folks are using them. Would be great tool to have. Is this a...
I have a stand very similar to your situation; on the edge of a bedding area with food source to my south. Deer feed to south of stand in the evening and morning and move back north and west after feeding around 7:30 am. I have 1 tree that works, most of the time. I can only hunt with a south...
I was dinking around on Craigslist and came across a rack for sale in the Des moines sporting section. Posted 2 days ago. The rack was a pick up and for some reason looked familiar, like maybe I've seen it on this site. Maybe someone could post the pic for others to see. Maybe close a chapter...
From what I have heard of the original Muddy owner, he is a heck of a businessman. For the reasons you described, an ideal time to sell and invest elsewhere.
On my travels today I saw a buck standing guard over a bedded doe in the middle of a cut corn field. This was near davenport. 4 pm. This weekend will be great.
Maybe someone can lend you one of those trail cams with email/text alerts. As bold as they are, I'm sure they'd ignore it too. Wait for the alert and catch them red handed.
Had a similar occurrence recently. Fortunately neighbor uses facebook and saw that someone had found a dog several miles away. We were reunited with our pet the next morning. There are still plenty of good folks out there. Stay positive and good luck.
Took this picture two weekends ago. This shed knows what happened, but he isn't talking. There was a large beard in the pile of feathers. Found 5 puff balls of feathers on this large ridge. I gaurantee it bobcats; either that or the turkeys are extremely depressed.
I wouldn't rush the decision. Most taxidermists have several forms laying around. I would set the rack on each form and then decide. I've got several, and believe me you CAN over think it. Get them home and always wrong turn. Nice buck by the way, sweet brows. IMO full sneak needs to be used...
Not casting stones at anyone, just a comment. When farmers buy ground in my area they usually let folks hunt with permission unless they themselves are diehard hunters. Most farmground that exchanges hands is between local farmers.
MOhunter, that is the misconception. You can hunt on it, just can't get an any sex landowner tag every year. Plain and simple. These guys could party hunt ever year on their property.
