    Planting a new fenceline?

Got a ? for one of you experts. A farm I hunt just dozed out a fenceline & put in new fence leaving appx. 30' of cleared ground where they removed alot of elm & osage trees. It will be pastured with cattle next Fall & I would assume he will plant some type of grass in there for the cattle. Could...

    Evaluate the rut please.

I'm just curious what everyone thought of the rut this Fall. Maybe we can get a jump on this discussion before the hunting mags. come out with their "official report". As for me it was the best I've seen in a while. More seeking, chasing and fighting than I think I've ever seen. Sounds like...

Deer back in the green fields!

Was out driving around and noticed several doe/family groups in the green fields. This peaked my curiosity so I snooped a little more and sure enough I found a bachelor group of 5 bucks; three of which were shooters. Man I am so ready for the youth hunt with my daughter. Wait a minute, what if...

    MidWest Outdoors contact info?

I know this came up in the past but a search of all posts gave me no results. I bought a 2-man Brutus stand and would like an extension for the youth hunt. Anyone have a phone number? Their web site doesn't have one and I haven't recieved a reply from my e-mail. Any help would be appreciated. Maggs

    Legislative Website?

Does anyone know the website for proposed bills in the legislature? I see Senate File 18 was introduced yesterday to increase the # of NR tags for deer & turkey by Angelo. I'd like to see the details. Thanks. Maggs

    Fallow Deer for sale?-Underwood,IA

Saw this ad in the Des Moines Register: Fallow deer, nice bucks, hunters welcome, $250 each. 712-566-9125. Anybody know the story on this place? Supposed to be near Underwood and he has too many bucks & they're fighting and knocking down the fence. $250 is pretty cheap considering they get...

    Re-charging Scent-loc?

Just curious how everyone re-charges their suits. I read once on a forum that the temp. has to reach a certain point and normal clothes dryers don't get that hot. What does everyone do? Maggs.

    Elk Hunting?

Just found out yesterday that two friends and I drew mature bull tags for New Mexico this Fall. Our first time applying and none of us have been elk hunting before. Needless to say we're all pumped. Just curious if any members here are experienced elk hunters? Thanks. Maggs.

    Bobcat Resurgance in Eastern Iowa!

Our local paper today ran an article and some pictures about two separate bobcats that were trapped in Jackson County on the same day in different ends of the county. Seems as though they are making quite a comeback here as well as southern Iowa. Both were released unharmed. Then I went to my...

    ? for wildlife biologist wannabees

I've seen alot of posts bashing party hunting and group pushes. I'm not one to stir things up but I'd like to hear how everyone would control the deer herd if party hunting was outlawed? I know in my area alot,(most?, many?) of the shotgun hunters simply would not hunt if left to their own...

    New Regulations Proposed!

Has anyone seen the specifics of these recommendations by the DNR? It was in the paper yesterday, I think. Something about scaling back the increase in NR fees and raising the resident ones. Personally I don't have a problem with either of these changes but they also mentioned doubling the # of...

    Party Hunting ??

Phantom, We had the same question a few years ago and were told that as long as they follow directly behind the other hunters and don't participate in any way(assisting with drive, etc) they will be ok. Best bet is to set him up behind a blocker. Good luck. Maggs

    Rut Update?

I'm sure most everyone is very busy hunting this week/weekend but I'm stuck at work today & tomorrow. It doesn't look good for Sunday either. I would appreciate hearing what everyone is seeing as far as the rut is concerned. Last year I was out there at the perfect time and saw numerous big...

    Camodust?

Anyone ever heard of it or used it? It's a new product designed to stop the odor caused by moisture & bacteria when you sweat. It was developed by a man in Arkansas & I talked to a guy in Tennesee who left his Scent-lok at home last year and just used this. I have some info. being sent to me &...

Can anyone tell me where I can find a map or description of the NR zones? I looked on the IDNR site yesterday and have asked on two different Iowa hunting sites but can't get a response. Someone out there has to have an answer. Thanks. Maggs.

    State Selling NR Mailing List?

Copied this from a post on the Iowa Forum on the Bowsite. Several other NR hunters replied they had been solicited also. Does anyone know if the State is selling the list of applicants or if this is covered under our open records law? "Thought some of you guys would love this. In the mail today...

    What causes this?

Saw a doe with her fawn last night at about 40 yards. When she stopped & perked her ears forward I noticed she had a round white mark behind her left ear about the size of a silver dollar. When her ears went back you couldn't see it. Also had a small sliver of white on her side just in front of...
