as a side note I was told today that of the land sold about 70% is being bought by farmers. That may be an Illinois stat but at least it shows there is still more interest besides rich hunters

lobbyist try to do what they are paid to do and that is to influence legislatures to pass rules and laws that may not be for the good of the people but to somehow benefit others.Alot of people don't really care about this until it affects them personally. When you elect someone to office you...

I ve ask that question before but never got a real answer. That could put to rest the fear of the land rush.In addition to the guys that want to plant corn I have always suspected a portion of the total acres was and still is purchased by overseas investors that are more interested in buying...

I have never heard you can use a bow tag during late season muzzy. Also if it is about deer numbers why is a bow tag so much harder to draw than a gun tag? I understand you can hunt the rut but I suspect a firearm is more lethal than a bow.Still I cant understand why a nrlo harvesting one deer...

I agree 40 is about right. It should at least be a huntable amount whatever that is.The free tag shouldnt allow you to hunt any place else including group hunts>

So do you think that a couple acres gets you a free tag? I always thought land owners got tags because they provided food and habitat.Illinois I think requires you own 40 acres.Looks like Iowa loses alot of revenue passing out tags to the guys that may have a big yard.Interesting

nrlo I asked earlier how much land does a resident have to own to qualify for a free tag? And you cant throw non residents and non resident land owners in the same bag and expect that to be viewed as fair. You all set there and talk about preference points and owning land is a point.

non resident land owners It still amazes me how some residents struggle with understanding why non resident landowners feel they should at least be able to buy an any sex permit every year. We own the property and that in itself is enough to secure us the priviledge. Basically it is no...

    deer numbers down

The Dnr and the governor are not the ones pulling the triggers. The non resident land owners who actually are willing to buy a tag to hunt their own land for many times what a resident pays arent your problem either. It seems that groups of 20 to 30 or more with pockets full of tags go in and...

Good thought! Thats really the bottom line for the majority of us.For what is worth I believe there was alot fewer deer in my area based on sightings while hunting and the number of sheds this spring . The political machine needs to put their trust in the input from the DNR and not the accountants.

That makes sense to me but it does put nrlo's on an equal playing field with each other.I think most nrlo's could accept they didnt get a tag this year because another nrlo got one would and not raise near the controversy as a nr.Nrlo's obviously dont contribute on a daily as a resident but we...

You have made some good points and your imput has been thought thru.Alot of issues were covered .Some of the conditions you touch on did put the nr's and nrlo's together but like I said you covered a broad area. One thing that always puzzles me is why if the tag numbers stay the same and if...

It No we have figured it out but it seems to be a band aid of some sort .I bought one of those tags a few years ago. .The past ten years I have had 4 tags including that one.I have shot 2 deer.I have never tried to get a tag under any false pretenses .I'm sure there are many nrlo's that also...

Have you forgotten nrlo's are put into a lottery with nr's? Yes you are correct that does not make me happy.I havent liked it for the past 10 years that I have owned property in Iowa. But I dont think I am wrong either. From your posts I believe you would feel the same way if the tables were...

I believe that is correct .There are 4 major groups=resident landowners=residents =non resident land owners=non residents. Each group has their own priviledges and should be recognized. There may be others but as far as I know Iowa is the only state that does not give nrlo's any preference over...

You did not hear anyone was paying lobbiest $5000 a year. What you heard was nrlo's would probably rather pay a lobbiest $5000 than pay that much to hunt their own land!Big difference.

Are you saying ifyour friend was driving an old rusted out S 10 instead 0f the bmw he could also own some land instead?Does that also mean that if you live in a $200,000 house and drive a new pick up car and boat you too could own land instead.Interesting ,I wonder if that is what some nrlo's...

I think that most nrlo's would be more inclined to give the $5000 you suggest to a lobbyist than to pay that much to hunt their own land.

Probably wouldnt sound so dumb if you owned land that you couldnt hunt and had to be drawn from lottery with other nr that did not own any land and they had the same odds and then be charged $500.
