My farm is in NE MO. I won't be able to get back to it until late May. I want to plant 2 acres of clover but am concerned it's too late. If we get adequate rain I'd be less concerned. What do you think? Thanks.
I've used small water tanks like you buy at the feed store for cows. Don't think the deer ever accepted them.
This year we got a dozer to dig a hole about 5 feet deep. It's about 20' x 40'. Rain filled it up in a couple of months and it held water during the summer drought. The deer really...
In Missouri I had the state forester come out to the farm. They did a study of the place and divided the 160 acre farm into 7 sections and listed the priority we should use in doing the TSI. I chose 2 pieces totaling 39 acres. They gave me a price they would pay for doing it. I contracted...
I haven't had any luck with heavy shade. Allow 20' from the trees to the beginning of a food plot, that's what the local seed company told me and I've pretty much found that to be true. Stuff won't grow if it can't get any sun.
I have a pigweed problem as well. I plan to plant alfalfa this fall. I've been discing the field every 2-3 weeks to kill anything that starts to grow. I'll do this until August then I'll plant the alfalfa. Since I'll be mowing the alfalfa regularly the pigweed next year won't be able to...
I have a farm in NE Missouri and this county has been hard hit by EHD. 330 cases reported so far. Just wondered if anyone lives in SE Iowa and has knowledge of how it's affecting your area.
I have two friends who are really good hunters. They swear by the Ozonics. I've been very skeptical of it but they convinced me to try it. I'm going on a hunt next week for whitetails and will be using it for the first time. I'll let you know what I think of it once I get to field test it.
I was going to plant alfalfa in a 3 acre plot but the rain has delayed me too long. Now I'll do it in August. I'd like to plant something for the summer what do you recommend? I'm thinking buckwheat. Whatever I do, I'll take it out in August.
I think I will plant a 3 acre field in alfalfa. Am I too late? Should I wait until August? Should I plant a nurse crop, oats?
If I wait how would it be to plant buckwheat until I put in the alfalfa?
What's the application rate for drilling? For broadcasting?
Thanks for any...
A couple of questions about these plants. Last fall I planted Ladino in a couple of fields. I was satisfied with the growth but once we had frost the clover seemed to wilt badly. Is this typical? If so does any clover stand up to frost so I have something green growing in the late season...
Fencing is nice but it's expensive. What do you guys typically pay per acre to fence off your beans? Seems to me, it would cost about $600+ to do an acre. I'd like to do it if I could afford it, any low price fences available?
We did 39 acres of TSI in December under a state contract. We couldn't hinge much but we did as many as they would permit. Mostly hickories were hinged. Most of our trees are oak and hickory. As previously mentioned, do be careful in hinging, it's dangerous work.
I did 39 acres of TSI on my farm. The cut area is a mess. I plan to do what you guys are talking about. This spring I'll cut through all of the trees lying on the ground and create trails. I also use a Stihl webwacker with a saw blade attached to clear briers, etc to make trails more deer...
