How long you've been deer hunting

31 years for me. Have only used bow. Like most here I still get as excited today when I climb in the stand or hear foot steps in the leaves as I did in year one. I remember if I saw a deer, any deer, every other time in stand it was a great year. Every year, on the last day of season, I pray...

    Deer movement update thread

2:45 yesterday had 6 does come in with 3 bucks on their tail - 2 of the bucks were borderline shooters. Chased for a while, then went off after a few more does back in the bedding area. A spike and doe browsing right before dark.

    Deer movement update thread

Linn county. The last 2 days I have seen yearling bucks bumping does and the older bucks spending 45 minutes browsing and only glancing at the does. I caught one shooter on camera this week at 11:42 Friday night. But this is one of my favorite weeks to hunt, I have seen some of the biggest...

Best method to bring in a buck

I have had that same scenario. I have found that deer, especially mature bucks, want some additional confirmation of what they heard. I had a decent buck respond to a grunt call but hang up about 70 yards out, he looked around then turned to leave, I grunted him back. At that moment a couple...

    Squirrel shortage?

I'm seeing the same MNBuckHunter, lots of continuos chasing. Saw my #1 hitlister "Rocky" who I have 352 trail cam photos of, I'm fairly sure he's the one that's chewed on the Moultrie as well. But he's crafty and stayed on the other side of the tree. Needless to say the warm weather hasn't...

    Deer movement update thread

I posted early yesterday it was slow in the morning, but I have seen 3 shooters from the stand either chasing does or each other after 10am the last two mornings - and a few mature bucks cruising between 11-1 in the creek behind my house.

    Deer movement update thread

Feels like lock down in Linn county. Through last weekend I had a lot of Buck activity, a few shooters on camera during daylight (more than once), the last 3 days have been spikes and forks moping around and 1/10th the deer sightings. Same this morning, hence I'm posting on Iowa Whitetail during...

    Nov 6th Buck

Started having second thoughts about passing up a couple good bucks early in my vacation the first week of November, but was able to grunt this guy in to about 10 yards - the Rocket Steelhead did its job and he piled up 40 yards away. Rough scored 157" and change. Looking forward to next season...

    Rut Question????

It has been a trickle rut for me as well. Relatively little traditional rut activity. I have had similar reports from friends. Sunday at first light I did see five bucks all in the same field - two were in the 140s, the rest were dinks. I believe they are in lock down right now - did an all day...

    Observations

Same here - Had a couple slow days, then couldn't beat them off with a stick yesterday morn - averaged a different buck every 15 minutes between 7AM and 9AM, had three fights within 25 yeards of the stand, and one all out chase. Today, not a single deer. I too live in a wooded area and have seen...

What do you think about T-giving week?

I have seen more big bucks around Thanksgiving than any other time of year. They can be very eager to come to a doe bleat. Fletch

    Suggestions on this property?

I started hunting a place like this a few years back...Like you, I was used to the timbered hills and crop bottoms. I usually stay away from field edges but tried to hunt the bottoms and ended up getting scented regularly. This last year I found a couple deep drainages coming off the field edge...

    eBay and sporting equipment?

Just out of curiousity...How many of you have purchased, or would consider purchasing your hunting and/or fishing equipment from eBay or another of the auction sites? If not, why not? Is it selection, price, supplier credibility, etc.? Just an informal poll... Fletch

    FRUSTRATION

Went out this morning and couldn't get to my stand because of bucks chasing does. I waited for the field to clear then tried to sneak in - unfortunately, I came eye to eye with a 150" class buck who was zig zagging the field hoping to pick up a does trail. I finally made it to my stand at 6:45...

    FRUSTRATION

They were chasing hard tonight. I had four different bucks dogging does while I was in stand. The first came around at 2:40pm. At this very moment there is a buck chasing does, grunting like a pig, in back of my house. It's probably the 150" 11pt I got video of doing the same thing at 11:00am...

    Sundown Lake

Can anyone tell me anything about this lake and the property around it? I brought my wife an aerial photo of some timber for sale and she countered with an advertisement for some lake front lots for sale. Anybody heard of the lake or better yet, fished it? Fletch

    Asking Permission

In your experience, when's the best time to ask for permission to hunt a property for next fall? Is it immediately following the season(s)or should I wait until closer to Spring. I will be searching for new property for next year and want to start the process as soon as possible. But I'm...

Do you wear a face mask???

You can certainly get away without a full mask, but I wear one all the time. The guys on TV probably don't wear one because they have to narrate to the camera. To avoid having a problem with it getting in the way, I use the "open-face" masks (no seperate eye/nose/mouth holes). They do hinder...

    RUT REPORT

Nov 2 AM Had one 2 1/2 year old buck cruising by at 7:45. At 8:15 heard a grunt and a 120" 8 pointer chased a doe under my stand. He did a snort wheeze at a spike and button buck, and then bullied the doe out of sight.
