    Your preference for switchgrass seed’

Yes It does much better than most on sandy soils. I planted some in pure sand last year and it got 4-5 feet tall. Still needs timely rains though.

    Your preference for switchgrass seed’

Few thoughts….. Yes We have partners (I hate the word pro staff) who currently have plantings of real world and RC Bigrock together. RC Big out grew RW the first year. Real World is $9 a pound ( no that is not a typo) , $9 a pound more than RC Bigrock. Folks, that’s $1250 a fifty pound bag...

    Neighbor pressure and switchgrass ?

Switchgrass can be a big help in holding deer. So can TSI / hinge cutting in the timber between you and your neighbor. Jake Ehlinger and Randy VanDerVeen have some great videos on timber management. Dbltree has some threads here on tsi and hinge cutting. It may take bother to make a huge...

Ya I have a buddy who has a trailer shop and he saves old axels for me. I can weld so a steel running gear is no problem to make of needed.

    Hawk blinds

I always liked 6x6 size. Holds 2 comfortably, 3 if needed and can still hide it fairly well. I liked Bobby Kendall’s design (the whitetail group) and mimicked his window layout and sealing process and steel roof. T-111 siding 2x4 walls . Should last for years.

    Hawk blinds

We use the 4 4x4 leg system. With the steel mounts. I’ll try to get a picture when I can. I do have a redneck and sat in it last night. Lots of leaks. Not sure if it’s supposed to drain that way or what (through the floor). It just seems everyone is throwing these blinds together and charging...

    Hawk blinds

A few observations on the big name blinds. Redneck is not scent tight. I have a hundred dead flies in ours. A muddy dealer up the road has them sitting out all year. There were a couple that you could clearly see that the bottom was warped/ rippled. I am assuming it was from the exposure to...

    Switchgrass

I was never a fan of the mid summer seeding of switchgrass, we always tried to prep the year before seeding and frost seed it. This RC seed line has me rethinking that. Roger (from REAP CANADA) has planted in July in Canada and got 3-4 foot tall RC Bigrock by late Sept. I’ve seen 6 foot tall...

    30 Days Since Planting Brassicas

Ours at 4 weeks in Upper Michigan. You can see that the plot is in the dbltree strips. We added 50 pounds of winter peas ( inoculated) to the planting to see if the will help the growing brassica with the nitrogen they produce. Some volunteer rye and oats are in there as well but don’t seem to...

I can’t figure out posting pics on this site, sorry not very tech savvy. They don’t eat the sorghum we use. A plant nip here or there , but this screen has zero deer food in it. The product is called Food Plot Screen. http://www.northwoodswhitetails.com/product/food-plot-screen
