I watched recreational land in NE Iowa go from 5k an acre to 10k almost overnight. Seriously considering selling some land and banking half the proceeds to buy another farm in another area when the recession hits. I am crazy or no?

I have had good success with it in tree plantings but was always told to not use the year you plant the seedlings. As stated already, a little goes a long way.

Not only is Iowa's gun season in December but there are two of them... not to mention two separate muzzleloader seasons. This spreads out the gun hunters and there is always a "sanctuary " farm nearby that isn't being hunted. I wish other states would pick up on this but the tradition is more...

I have an EXO 3500 for western hunting and excited to try it for stand hunting this year. You can sandwich your stand between the pack and frame and it carries the weight really nice. Very narrow so you can shoot with it on and it doesn't catch on limbs.

It will be interesting if portions of southern Iowa continue to experience EHD outbreaks every few years. Nock on wood, I have not experienced one in NE Iowa or across the river in WI. This may be a consideration when comparing the two.

To put more emphasis on mass, main beam cross section area could be used with the current P&Y scoring system instead of circumference. To get an idea of the impact mass would have, each circumference measurement could be converted using this formula A = C2 / (4 π).

Maybe conduct your own sealed bid process but with stipulation that logs will be harvested and in a row ready to load. Include diameter and length and species of each tree but at least u are not cutting trees without assurance that u will get a good price.
Private ground just south of MN border. A few counties south they are all over. The "good news" is I spotted the flash of squirrel tail yesterday around 4 pm but that was it for the whole weekend. For now, all is right in the woods again.
If these deer would quit getting my hopes up...
I have spent about 8 hours on stand this season in far northeast Iowa and have yet to see a single squirrel. Not complaining, but was there some sort of a die-off?
NE Iowa - saw a 3, 2, and 1 year old buck surrounding a doe in an open bean field. Obviously she was almost ready. I usually see more of this around mid November but there are a few early ones every year.
