Congrats on your turkey. NE's governor just proclaimed NE as the top turkey hunting destination in the country. There are huntable populations in all 93 counties.
In NE one can shoot several of the turkey sub species identified in the world in NE because the vast, vast, vast, majority of all turkeys in NE are hybrids. They can show all the coloring characteristics of rio, eastern, and Merriam all on the same property. I have shot what one could call each of those based on their coloring on the same property in Northeastern NE along the Missouri river and also in Cass county NE in southeastern NE but all were hybrids.
People who want to tell others they shot a certain subspecies can kill one of those hybrids and tell everyone it is one of the subs when in reality it is a hybrid. Whatever floats one's boat though. One can get three spring tags in NE so one can get a huge chunk of their slam done in that state. Good luck with your slam.
