Shut down Google, turn off the Blackberry, and get off that cell phone.

Now listen up: An adult/child fishing tournament is scheduled for May 24 at Geode State Park.

That's outside, in nature, on a sparkling body of water in the springtime in Iowa.

It doesn't get any better than that.

The inaugural Larry Salzgaver Memorial Bass Tournament is being hosted by the Lake Cooper Angling Association, which Salzgaver joined many years ago.

Salzgaver died at the age of 71 in June 2007 and designated as his memorial the Lake Cooper Angling Association youth programs.

"Larry was very big with the kids events," said LCAA co-founder Jim Noll. "Larry was there for any need, he did everything. He held every office and was there for every event. He poured his heart out for it."

Kelley Joe Clark, tournament director, said the event will be from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. with two-person teams of one adult and one child. Boats are required.

Entry fee is $40 per person with a 90 percent payback for first through fifth places in the three-fish weigh-in.

Plaques will be awarded as well. An extra $10 big bass fee is optional, with 100 percent payback.

Anglers can get additional information or sign up by contacting Clark at (319) 372-2153 or by cell phone at (319) 470-5114.

I havent fished a bass tournament before but im considering getting in this one. Lake Geode isnt a real big lake but it holds a good number of bass. Now all i gotta do is find a kid 16 or younger who can handle being in a boat for 8 hours straight. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
