This bill would make it illegal to shoot black bears in Iowa.

NE Iowa has seen a few. One of the larger beekeepers in Iowa had some hives destroyed a couple years back. Might be some of the push.

There have been a few bears "wandering through" in particularly NE Iowa off and on through the years. But to my great surprise, there was a legit report of a bear in my SE Iowa neighborhood a couple of years ago. I am not sure I would have believed it except some local dude got some pics that were less than a mile from my place. I never heard what happened to it, but after seeing the pics myself, I trust that the report was solid.

I am not aware of anyone actually shooting one though.

There was one photographed just west of Oskaloosa a couple years ago. It was killed by a car in Poweshiek county that fall.
